A Presidents
Recollection
of Bokeelia...
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to tell you folks that could not make it, what a great time we had in Bokeelia this year. There were 10 of us who made the journey southward in our pursuit of the Silver King. We had Kathy and Robert Lynch, Cliff Bailey, Sherry Miller, Jim Toner, Marty Lodivico, Randy “The Gaff” Poppert, Ed “Shark Face” Miller, my wife Carol and me.
Day 1 started out innocently enough as everyone prepared to head out early Friday morning. Randy, Jim and Marty were the first to leave with Carol and me not far behind. All I can say is it was a good thing I packed my bearings before we left because I had a tire blow out before I reached 49th Street. Between Sea Tow’s Trailer Assistance, which I had just purchased before the trip, and the help of the two remaining southbound trucks bringing up the rear, it only held us up an hour or so.
We arrived early afternoon and began to get settled in and get the boats in the water. We all had accommodations that allowed us to dock our boats in our back yard. It was a beautiful thing!
After all that …I’ll be darned if it wasn’t Happy Hour!

By the time everyone was “Happy” enough, it was off to Pork Bellies for some awesome barbecue.
Yummy!

Robert did a great job in setting up our dining arrangements in advance and seeing to it that we were provided with a group HPAC Discount.
Then it was early to bed as it was soon to be early to rise!
Day 2 saw everyone up and at it before the dawn. Well, everyone but Carol, but she wasn’t far behind! It was nice being able to go into the backyard, fire up the motor and away you go! Most people fished the day in two stages skipping the mid day heat. I know it worked well for us.
About six o’clock we were off to Robert’s next culinary choice for a wonderful seafood dinner and...
...a great sunset on the end of the island.
And then, once again, early to bed… early to rise!
Day 3 was much the same. Carol and I challenged the Boca Grande Pass with the “Lynch Mob” in their boat for the morning round. Robert jumped a Tarpon, but he shook it loose on his first lunge out of the water (The tarpon that is!). It was cool to watch as they filmed the Pro Tarpon Tour for the Sunshine Network. They taped weeks 3 and 4 while we were there. Robert got on TV and I know he would be happy to sign an autograph for anyone who would ask!

After an afternoon of chasing some snook and redfish, it was time to head out for dinner again.
This time to a new place not on Robert’s radar from last year and according to some, not on it next year either! Randy couldn’t believe the bill!
Five left on day four and five of us stuck it out one more day. Personally, I didn’t ever want to leave!

We spent one more fun day on the water then packed it up and headed home on Tuesday. Robert had the only tarpon action of the whole trip.
We did, however, get to see a Very Rare Shark that closely resembled Ed Miller, of all people. I think Sherry got a picture of it. It really was pretty scary! Be careful sharing it with the children, we don’t want any nightmares!
All in all it was a really fun trip! I know all of us that went had a really great time! I hope some more of you can join us next year. I know my wife and I can’t wait to do it again!

Wow! Robert's "Man Shark" even made the cover of Florida Sportsman. (Click picture below to view larger image.)
